All of our gowns are manufactured with canvas

What is canvas and why is it important?

Canvas, also known as hair cloth, is an essential layer located between the outer fabric and the lining of a gown. It is often made from a blend of natural fibers, such as horsehair, camel hair and cotton. This composition gives canvas unique properties, such as flexibility, strength and the ability to hold its shape.

Canvas plays a crucial role in the fit and durability of a gown. It allows the gown to adapt to the wearer’s body shape over time, making the garment fit better and better. In addition, canvas helps to support the structure and appearance of the gown, maintaining an elegant and professional look even after prolonged use.

In addition, canvas provides extra strength and prevents the outer fabric from sagging or losing its shape. This makes it an important element in high-end garments, especially in custom and luxury designs.

In short, canvas is the hidden hero behind a well-fitting, durable and stylish gown.

Why was canvas originally used?

Canvas was originally introduced into garments to improve functionality and durability. The use of canvas, made from strong natural fibers such as horsehair and cotton, provided a solution to a common problem: sagging and distortion of fabrics after prolonged use.

In the early days of tailoring, canvas was primarily used to enhance the structure and shape of gowns and cloaks. It helped give garments a sleek, professional look while increasing their durability. Canvas allowed the gown to retain its shape even after frequent wear, which was especially important for business and formal garments.

In addition, canvas played an important role in personalizing clothing. The material’s flexibility allowed a gown to adapt to the wearer’s body shape over time, leading to a better fit and greater comfort.

Canvas was thus chosen not only for its practical benefits, but also for its ability to make garments more beautiful and functional. Today, it remains an essential element in the production of high-quality garments.

Why choose Full Canvas?

Full Canvas is considered the gold standard in custom and luxury garments. Instead of reinforcing only certain parts of the gown, a Full Canvas construction covers the entire front of the gown with canvas material. This offers the following advantages:

  1. Perfect fit:
Full Canvas allows the gown to fully conform to the contours of your body. Over time, the canvas molds to your posture, making the gown more comfortable and fitting.
  2. Durability:
Thanks to the use of high-quality natural fibers such as horsehair and camel hair, a Full Canvas gown retains its structure and shape much longer than alternatives such as half canvas or fused constructions.
  3. Breathability:
A Full Canvas construction uses natural materials that allow air to pass through, resulting in a gown that breathes better. This offers greater comfort, especially when worn for long periods of time or in warmer conditions.
  4. Natural look:
Because the outer fabric is not attached to a layer of glue (as in fused gowns), the gown retains its natural flow and elegance. This provides an unparalleled luxurious look.
  5. An investment in quality:
A Full Canvas gown is an investment in craftsmanship and quality. Although more expensive to produce, it offers a unique combination of style, comfort and durability.

Full Canvas is the choice for those who value craftsmanship, attention to detail and the perfect balance between aesthetics and functionality.

Types of Canvas Material

Canvas material plays a crucial role in the quality and functionality of a gown. Depending on the use and desired properties, different types of canvas are available:

  1. Horsehair Canvas
This is the most traditional type of canvas and is made from a blend of horsehair and cotton. It is known for its strength, flexibility and long-lasting shape retention. Horsehair canvas molds to the body, creating a natural fit.
  2. Camel Hair Canvas
Camel hair canvas is prized for its softness and luxurious appearance. It offers excellent insulation and is lighter than horsehair canvas, making it an excellent choice for comfortable gowns.
  3. Mixed Canvas
This type of canvas combines natural fibers such as horsehair, camel hair and cotton for a perfect balance of strength and comfort. It is often used in modern constructions to ensure both durability and flexibility.
  4. Synthetic Canvas
Although less traditional, synthetic canvas is sometimes used because of its lower cost and light weight. However, it lacks the breathability and natural properties of animal fibers, making it less suitable for high-end gowns.

The right choice
Choosing the type of canvas material depends on your priorities, such as comfort, durability and appearance. For a top-quality gown, horsehair or a blend of natural fibers is usually chosen, as these materials best suit customization and luxury.
